Aerospace Bristol

Client: Bristol Aero Collection Trust

Project: Aerospace Bristol museum Interpretation Masterplan and Content, Heritage Lottery funded

Collaborators: Event Communications, Focus Consulting, Surface 3

Tim Gardom Associates worked with teams from the Bristol Aero Collections Trust to develop the Interpretation Masterplan and all content for the new Aerospace Bristol museum (opened in 2017), including scripting and briefing for all AV media, physical and digital interactives.

In the process, through the curators, archivists and restoration teams we got to know the unique archive and collections that reveal a comprehensive record documenting the history of flight over the last 100+ years.

Exhibits throughout Aerospace Bristol museum - housed in the beautiful restored and refurbished WWI Belfast Hangar - shines a light on the social, industrial and technical evolution of the aviation industry, its impact on the local area and people of Bristol, the trials, the achievements and how what happened here changed the world - from the bottom of the oceans to the edges of space.

In a brand new and purpose build hangar, the last Concorde ever to fly has a permanent home and visitors can explore the stories of the people who designed and built, piloted, crewed and journeyed on board the iconic supersonic plane.

In 2020, we reached out to Aerospace Bristol to develop new strategies and experiences in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Working with management, education and engagement teams, we devised a new project, Aerospace Lives, to explore opportunities across four aspects of the museum’s development over the coming months - collections, audiences, workforce and digital.

The Aerospace Lives project has received £30,000 from an Art Fund Respond and Reimagine grant, and is being developed in collaboration with our Europe based sister company this great adventure. To find out more - Click Here.
